Friend Friday + DIY Fairy Gardens

The past couple weeks, I've been busy working in the yard and big garden doing spring prep and getting ready for planting. So, I thought having the children make their own little fairy gardens for Friend Friday would be a fun way to start the month of May! When I looked in the stores for fairy garden supplies, I was suprised how expensive they were! (p.s. the dollar store gets fairy garden stuff around March-ish and they are gone SUPER quick!) So, here's a little DIY post for ya. ;) P.S. These cost me less than $8.50/garden with everything. I couldn't even get a little fairy garden accessory at the store for less than $9.99. #dealbrag

I found these little bird houses at the Dollar Tree and decided they would work for little fairy houses. I let the children paint them before we decorated them!

You can find multiple size and colors of plant containers at the Dollar Store. I grabbed one for each child and they helped me shovel dirt from the small garden into each container while they waited for their houses to dry.

When the planters were filled and the houses were dry, we glued grass on the roofs and flowers for decoration. The children also made little flags/signs for their fairy gardens. #creativelittleminds I found some ladybug, strawberry, and knome buttons at Joanns and decided they would work well for accessories. I also grabbed some fake little succulent plants at the Dollar Tree and we planted those next to the fairy houses. I LOVE how they turned out!

Afterwards, the children played with their stuffed animals and pretended our overgrown bushes were the forest. Even in suburbia, there's still adventures and dreamy childhood memories to be made. (Okay, that's nothing against the suburbs. Sometimes...eh, a lot of the time...I dream about our future homestead and the children running around the land, climbing trees, chasing chickens, picking berries, and swimming in the local pond. It gives me ALL the feels. But, recently I've decided that there is so much magic found in our little neighborhood and the people we have grown to love next door, across the street, and down the road. I'm finding and enjoying the beauty of where I'm at and it's wonderful. There are some things country living just doesn't offer. #bloomwhereyoureplanted )

Happy Weekend, y'all!
