Friend Friday + Leprechaun Traps

Okay, I'll be the first to admit that when my children mentioned leprechauns, traps for leprechauns, mischief created by leprechauns on St. Patrick's Day, etc, etc, etc...I immediately thought to myself "How many holidays do I need to remember?!" I am realizing more and more how much my children LOVE celebrating and even the simplest gestures create the greatest smiles and memories.

So...I jumped on the bandwagon. For Friend Friday, we created leprechaun traps and the children were on CLOUD NINE. I mean, the conversation went wild with ideas and creativity. One little girl looked me square in the eyes and told me in utter seriousness "I just have to catch a leprechaun. I NEED those three wishes." #youandmebothsister

I've got quite a collection of empty boxes and they came in handy for this activity. I used some leftover Christmas wrapping paper to cover them up and printed off a free clover template from pinterest to trace and cut out on craft paper I had lying around. I grabbed some old pennies from our coin jar that the children used to "lure" the leprechauns inside and I had some colored popsicle sticks I got from the Dollar Store a while back and used those to create rainbow ladders for the leprechauns to climb up. Everything for this project came from my craft shelf. And hallway. (There is a mountain of boxes in our foyer. I blame Marie Kondo. And the joy of tidying up. #irony)

After everyone created their leprechaun traps, the children played "catch the leprechaun" and then decided to make rainbow bracelets. I got out the perler beads and we used pipe cleaners and gold elastic I found to create our jewelry masterpieces.

We ended our playtime with an epic dance party and our 6 year old "DJ" made sure we got the favorites- Imagine Dragons, The Greatest Showman, Gummy Bear and What Does The Fox Say? You know-all the greatest hits.

I am also realizing that I don't have one picture of my own children in this post. It seems they would rather let their friends get in front of the camera, and just enjoy an activity without mom constantly asking them to "Show me!" or "Look up here!" Can't say I blame them. And good thing their friends are so stinkin' cute. ;)

Happy weekend, y'all! Don't forget to wear your green!
