Snow Day

When you get a text from your children's teacher, advising you to keep your kids home due to weather...you have a SNOW DAY! Snow days don't happen a lot in Utah, even though we get our fair share of snow. Instead, we're expected to BE PREPARED. But, even Mother Nature can throw some "snow" curve-balls at us (see what I did there?) and every kid's wish comes true- school gets cancelled.

I remember a couple snow days in my childhood. Although, my parents were the ones that made us go to school on Saturday when the district held their "make-up" day. *huff* *eye roll* They were good parents.

Imma be honest, getting all three children bundled up and dressed in their snow gear can be a major pain. Like, MAJOR. But, then I watch them from my window and remember the magic and excitement. I remember the beauty and joy of a white wonderland in our backyard and pulling our sleds behind us to the big hill by the church. We would spend hours sledding and hiking and sledding and hiking. It's what dreamy childhood memories are made of.

I'm getting better about making sure our kids get to be kids. Yeah, it's a struggle for me. Sometimes, I feel I push or expect a bit much for 6 and 3 year olds. It's easy for me to forget the importance of being silly and just playing for the sake of playing. I get overwhelmed with everything on the calendar and my to-do list and pretty soon find myself barking out orders, rushing through moments, and wishing for days ahead. #honesty But, I can't help feeling these are the moments not to be forgotten. These are the days that build the foundation of who these little people become. And how sad if I realize too late that I missed it.

Happy SNOW DAY!
